To help celebrate our 60-year anniversary, we’ve designed a tailored collection of menswear garments crafted in Italy from some of the world's renowned mills and fabric houses in the world; the highest sartorial standard known.
Italy has long been acknowledged as leaders in luxury men’s fabrics, housing the best Italian mills with an extensive history. Some of the best fabrics mills have honed and refined their wealth of knowledge and skills over many generations, and in some cases, over centuries.
It is these reasons that Aquila has chosen to manufacture the Altair collection completely in Italy. For Altair, small runs of exclusive fabrics have been utilised to create a “hands on” garment. Meaning, many of the process involved in created the Altair collection are, where possible, sewn by hand. A true testament to the quality of each and every Altair garment.
For us, it was important to work with tailors' whose special skill is knowing what or what not to add to our world-class fabric, in order to let the fabric be the "’Main event’. They know what is the lightest shoulder pad to use to get the super soft shoulder that still holds its shape – our Brera Check Suit is the perfect example. But then they can turn to making a soft linen jacket, like our Verona Linen Jacket, with no shoulder pads at all.
Due to the detailed construction process, the Altair collection feature incredible lightness and softness that is immediately noticeable. The tailored suit jackets are cut for the perfect fit, featuring a soft drape; the Altair suits are made from typically 40 components, which tells a story of the time, effort and skill that goes into its crafting process.
There has been a great emphasis on fabrics when designing the Altair collection. Aquila has used fabrics that are soft to touch; unique in colour with a true fashion sensibility.
The woollen garments are crafted by VBC 1663, which, as its name suggests, has been making woollen cloths in Northern Italy since 1663. The wool in our suiting is spun from a super 150’s wool, which ensures a super lightweight, comfortable and quality design, sourced from a very limited handful of Australian wool suppliers.
An interesting fact is that VBC supplies the absolute best labels in the world with its fabrics, including Tom Ford, Paul Smith, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani and others.
The linen blazers and pants derive from Solbiati, one of the best linen houses in the world. Solbiati were the first to propose a softened and naturally creased linen, thus inventing the ‘creped’ linen.
The linen shirts are crafted by the Italian Mill of Albini. The linen is yarn dyed for a unique depth of colour cannot be achieved by any other method. These shirts are softly washed in order to soften the colours of the garment; this is the only way to show 100% linen shirts at their best.
The Altair Collection is exclusive to Aquila, and is available in limited quantities. Altair will be available in selected Aquila menswear stores in Melbourne (including Emporium, Chadstone, Highpoint, Little Collins Street and Doncaster), as well as online.
